This year is off to a great start!  Everyone should now be settled into their classes.  We have a wonderful group of students and our teachers are very excited about teaching them.

Dance by Cami Website

Be sure to check our website at www.dancebycami.com.  You will find the current newsletters, calendar, classes, Policy and Procedures Manual, and lots more there.   On our site is our online store, “5678dance”.  You can access the link, log on to Dance by Cami and type in “5678dance”, and shop!  We carry a full line of Capezio shoes and dancewear which you can order and have shipped directly to your home.    Also, “like” Dance by Cami on facebook to receive the latest and most current studio updates.

Shoes and Attire

Please be sure that your child has the proper shoes and class attire.  It is especially important that your child has the correct tap shoes for his/her class.  If you are not sure about what that is, please either refer to the Policy and Procedures Manual online, or ask your child’s teacher.  The jazz shoes to be used in the recital will be determined in November.  In the meantime, jazz students may dance barefoot or wear any jazz shoe or ballet slipper.

If you are paying for tuition by the month, please make your payment on the first of the month.  Tuition is posted to your account on the 25th of the month.  You have 10 days to make your payment without penalty.  Payments made after the 5th of the month should include a $10 late fee.  You may pay your tuition online at www.mydanceworks.net, or drop your cash/checks into the payment box next to the office window.  Please place cash in an envelope marked with the student’s name.

Thank You for Sibling Control!

Most of you have been doing a fabulous job of keeping the waiting siblings quietly sitting still with you.  Thank you!  Please remember that siblings are not permitted to run through the studio and should not be left to play in the dressing room area.  They must sit quietly with a parent and always be in their parent’s view.

Girls Dressing/Lounge Area

This area is for GIRLS ONLY!  Also, if the girls bring food back to that area, please be sure that you or your child cleans up the crumbs or any leftover food. The crumbs and leftover food invites bugs!

September Newsletter

Dance by Cami Students and Parents,

Welcome to all of our many new students as well as our returning students!  We can’t wait to see your smiling faces in our classrooms.  You will notice a fresh new look at Dance by Cami.  We have new flooring throughout our hallways and lounge areas, and cubbies have been installed in the back girls' lounge for keeping your dance bags, etc.  We also hired a new cleaning company that promises to keep the studio even more shiny and clean!  Vending machines are going to be installed in the front lobby sometime in the next week or so.  We are all looking forward to Dance by Cami Season 15!!!

Newsletters

You will be receiving the monthly newsletter via email.  Please be sure that we have your correct email address.  We will always post a hard copy in the studio lobby as well.  The newsletters contain upcoming events, dates, deadlines, etc.  You may also read it on the Dance by Cami website.  All important information is communicated through these newsletters, so please be sure to take the time to read them!

Payments - IMPORTANT Change

Payments are always due on the first of each month.  Remember that the payment always remains the same throughout the year no matter how many classes are in the month, as it is an annual tuition broken down into 10 equal monthly payments.  Your tuition will be posted on your accounts on the 25th of the month.  Payments are due by the 1st of the month.  A Late Fee of $10 will be posted if not received by the 5th of the month, with the exception of September’s payment. Payments can be made online at www.mydanceworks.net.  The office is open on Thursday and Saturday mornings from 10:00-noon, and Monday through Friday from 5:00-7:00 during the 1st week of every month.  If you wish to pay in person by credit card, you must pay during those hours.  Otherwise, please leave your cash or check payments in the locked Payment Box just outside the office window.  Envelopes have been placed near the payment box if you wish to leave cash or mail in your payment.  Do not ask a teacher to leave her classroom to take your credit card please!  Please add a $10 late fee if your payment is made after the 5th of the month.

Class Schedules

You will not receive a hard copy of your schedule in the mail this year; instead your schedule and tuition amount has been emailed to you.  If it is not correct, please email us at dancebycami@yahoo.com ASAP so that we can make those changes.  Also, be sure to read the attire and shoe requirements on the website.  You may purchase shoes through our online store by accessing the link on our website at www.dancebycami.com, or at Tutu Dancewear in Bridgeville.

The Nutcracker

Dance by Cami has tickets to see the Pittsburgh Ballet Theater production of The Nutcracker for Sunday, December 17th at noon, at the Benedum.  We have great seats in the center section of the first tier of the theater.  We have tickets at a discounted price of $46.  This is half-price of individual tickets for these seats.  Prior to the performance we will have a backstage tour of the Benedum and get to go up on stage to watch the dancers warm-up.  Tickets go on sale at the studio on Saturday, September 16th at 9:00.  We have a limited number of tickets and we do sell out quickly.

Sibling Behavior

While siblings are always welcome to come to the studio while your dancer takes class, please do not allow them to be a distraction to the class, make excessive noise in the hallways, leave messes anywhere in the studio, or play unattended in the back dressing rooms.  We have installed new shelves that are meant for dancer’s bags and belongings, and should NOT be climbed on or an injury could occur.  We also have a fire escape door located in the back dressing room which by law needs to remained unlocked for a quick exit in case of emergency, however locks from the outside as a safety precaution.  You wouldn’t want your unattended child to go out that door and be locked around the back of the building!  Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.

Classes begin on Tuesday, September 5th.  Looking forward to an exciting Season 15!!!

Dance by Cami News - June 2017

Recitals and Dress Rehearsals

We have 2 shows on Saturday, June 17th.  The dress rehearsals for these 2 shows will be held on Wednesday, June 14th, and Friday, June 16th.  The shows and dress rehearsals are all held at the Upper St. Clair High School Theater.

Dancers performing in the show at 3:00 pm. should be at dress rehearsal at 5:00 on Wednesday.

Dancers performing in the 6:00 p.m. show should be at dress rehearsal at 4:00 on Friday.

When you come to Dress Rehearsal, go directly to the theater.  We will run the Finale first, and then run through the rest of the show in order.  It does not matter what you wear for the Finale practice.  You may leave dress rehearsal after your last dance is run.  However for the actual show, your dancer will need to stay until the end to receive her trophy.

You should bring ALL costumes, shoes and accessories to dress rehearsal.  Hair should be done similar to how you will wear it for the actual show.  Make-up should be done exactly as you would for the show.  That way you can see how your child looks under the lights.  The dancer should come dressed in the first costume.

Do not forget, you are not allowed to dance in any number that you did not rehearse on the stage!

Parents are to supervise your own children while they are at the dress rehearsal and recitals.

Class Moms

At the end of the Finale for the 3:00 show, the designated “Class Mom”, will come up to the stage to get the group.  Please be sure to make arrangements where the other moms will meet their children.  Please let your children in the 6:00 show know where your will meet after each number and after the Finale.  Please be sure that each class in the 3:00 show has a “Class Mom” to be the leader of the group at the recital. Each mom will bring her child back to the dressing rooms 5 numbers before to touch up make-up and to make sure that your child is stage ready.  You will then leave your child with the assigned class mom who will be responsible for the group until they are handed off to a teacher 3 numbers before they go on stage.  Once your child is ready, we ask that the moms please go back to the theater to take your seat.

Tuition Balances

All balances MUST be paid in full in order for your child to dance in the recital.  Please remember that tuition is based on an annual amount divided in 10 equal monthly payments.  June payment is payment number 10.  Any payment made at dress rehearsal, must be made by cash or check.

Recital Tickets

Recital tickets are on sale in the office.  The 3:00 show is sold out!  If you need tickets to this show be sure to place your name, number of tickets needed, and phone number on the sheet hanging in the lobby.  If parents didn’t get tickets, be sure to mark a star next to your name.  If you have extra tickets to sell, you can either contact those people directly, or write your name, phone number and number of tickets that you have to sell.   Tickets are $15.   Everyone taking a seat needs to purchase a ticket.  Dance by Cami students who are performing in the show do not need a ticket to get into the shows.  There will be a separate performer’s check-in area in the lobby.

Recital DVD’s

The recitals will each be professionally recorded.  DVD’s are $30.00.  You may either order it ahead of time at the studio, or you may order it at dress rehearsals, or before the shows.  No orders will be taken after the recital.  DVD’s may be picked up at the studio during summer class hours after July 18th

There will be no other video taping permitted during the show.  Flash photography is not permitted any time during the shows or rehearsals.

IMPORTANT:  Snow/Inclement Weather Closing Alerts

The Dance by Cami snow and inclement weather closing alerts are posted on WTAE-TV.  You may access snow closings by logging on to www.wtae.com.  On this site, you may sign up to have the Dance by Cami snow closings e-mailed and/or text to you.  We also post closings on our website as well as the Dance by Cami Facebook page.  Do NOT call the studio to see if we are open.  If the weather is bad, we may not be able to get to the studio to answer the phone, and even if we are at the studio and holding classes, we may not be in the office to answer the phone.  Classes cancelled due to inclement weather will not be made up.

Tights Order

All girl students in the recital must wear Body Wrappers (C31 or A31) tights in Suntan and/or Theatrical Pink unless otherwise specified by the class teacher.  You will see an order sheet on the table in the lobby beginning next week.  Please write your order on the sheet and place your check in the payment box with the word “tights” written on the memo line.  It’s always a good idea to buy an extra pair….especially if your child has multiple costume changes.  All tights are $14/pair.  The order deadline is Tuesday, February 28th

Picture Week

Please mark your calendars that Redford Photography will be here at the studio during the week of April 24th.  All students performing in the recital are required to have a group picture taken which will appear in the recital program.  There is no charge to have this picture taken.  You may purchase the picture if you would like.  Also, you may have individual photos taken during that time if you wish.  More information will come as we get closer to that week.  They will NOT be superimposing any dancers if they miss their group pictures.

Recital Date

The recitals will be held on Saturday, June 17th  at the Upper St. Clair High School Theater.  The younger students will perform in the 3:00 show, and the older students are in the 6:00 show.   Dress rehearsal for the 3:00 show will be held on Wednesday, June 14th at 5:00.  The dress rehearsal for the 6:00 show will be held on Friday, June 16th at 4:00.  Please note that any of these dates are subject to change by the Upper St. Clair School District.

Second Semester Tuition

If you are paying by the semester, payment for the 2nd semester is due now!  Those of you who have chosen to pay by the month, please remember that tuition is based on the year divided into 10 equal monthly payments, September through June.  This payment is NOT based on the number of classes in a month.  Payments made after the 10th of the month should add a $10 late fee.

New Pre-School Combo Classes

We have added 3 new Pre-School Comb classes beginning in February.  The times are Wednesdays at 10:00 and 12:00, and Saturday mornings at 9:00.  These are non-recital classes and will run through the end of May.  Enrollment for these classes will be ongoing throughout the semester.

Parent Observation Week

The next Parent Observation Week will be held during the week of March 6th.  If you do plan on sitting inside the classroom during your child’s classes, please sit quietly so not to disturb the class.  The teacher should not have to talk over the parents, and class time is very important as the teachers are preparing the students for the upcoming recital.

Lobby Noise!

While it's great to see so many friendships developing and people conversing, the noise level at times gets out of hand.  The teachers are trying to teach your children right on the other side of the wall, and the noise can be distracting.  Please remember talk quietly, and keep siblings sitting quietly.  This is especially true of the Tuesday 4:30-6:30 groups!

Spring Dance by Cami Spiritwear

Watch the lobby for our new line of spring Dance by Cami spirit wear display!  We will be offering some new items and designs as well as bringing back some of the popular previous items.

Showdoll Tryouts!

The Showdoll Audition Class is held in the Summer.  It will take place on Tuesday nights from 6-8pm from July 11 – Aug 29.  The girls will work on Tap, Ballet, Jazz, Turns, Leaps, Jumps, Stretching, Conditioning and Choreography.  The teachers will be judging the students on their dance technique, ability to learn and retain choreography, attitude in class, cooperation with the teachers and peers, and timeliness in class.  Attendance records and payment history will also be taken into consideration before extending invitations to join the Company.  At the end of the summer, Miss Cami will extend invitations and placements to the dancers she feels would be an ideal Showdoll.  Current Showdolls must audition annually, with the exception of a returning Captain.  All candidates must be at least 7 years of age by Sept. 1st. More information can be found on our website at www.dancebycami.com under class descriptions.

Please note and discuss with your child that this is an audition, and not every student who takes the Summer audition class will be accepted.  However this class is a wonderful time to work on and improve your technique

Recital Commitments Past Due

Recital Commitments were due by November 12th.  If we have not received this from you, along with the $40 per costume deposit, we will assume that your child will not be participating in the recital and a costume will not be ordered for him/her.  If you failed to submit the form/deposit and still wish to participate in the recital, contact us IMMEDIATELY!  We place costume orders on December 21st.  Once the order is placed, it will cost you an additional $20 to add a costume to our order.

Costume Measurements

We will be measuring all students for their recital costumes during the week of December 5th, which is Parents Observation Week.  Your teacher will be asking for moms to help with this so that it goes quickly.  If your child is not in attendance and does not get measured, please contact your child's teacher no later than December 19th so that she can get his/her measurements.  If we do not hear from you, your teacher will order an approximate size for your child.

New Pre-School Combo Classes

Snow/Inclement Weather Closings

In the event that the studio must close due to inclement weather, we will post the closing on WTAE-TV, the Dance by Cami website, as well as the Dance by Cami Facebook page.  We will also email you with the closing info.  Check these sources for closing information.  Please do not call the studio.

Tuition Payments

Please remember that if you are paying your tuition by the month, that your tuition is actually a yearly rate divided into 10 equal monthly payments.  That monthly payment remains the same regardless of how may classes you may have in a month.  Also, remember that payments for the month must be received by the 10th of the month.  Any payments not received by the 10th, will be assessed a $10 late fee.  Also, you may have noticed starting in December, our credit card processing company is now charging a $2 service charge.  You may pay by cash or check if you wish to avoid this fee.

Courtesy!

Once again, the teachers have asked that parents and siblings waiting in the lobby to please keep their voices down.  At times, the noise level has become distracting for them teaching classes.  Also, please do not allow your children to have food back in the Girls' Lounge area.  If they need to eat, they should do so in the front lobby.  They also should not be back there doing "acro tricks".  Of course, NO BOYS ALLOWED in the Girl's Lounge area.

Cell Phones

If your child brings a cell phone to class, they are going to be asked to leave it at the front of the class.  Some of the teachers have complained that way too much time is spent in class texting, and taking selfies and videos.

Christmas Vacation

No classes will be held on Tuesday, December 20th through Monday, January 2nd.  Classes will resume on Tuesday, January 3rd.

Snow/Inclement Weather Closings

It's getting to be that time of year when the studio may close due to snow or inclement weather. We will post closings on our Dance by Cami website and on our Facebook page. We will also be emailing closings to you. Please check these sources for up to date information on class status. Generally, we try to make the decision to close at 8:00 a.m. for morning classes, and 3:00 p.m. for afternoon and evening classes. There may be times when we need to close the studio early, so if your child is there for evening classes, be sure to check the status.

Showdolls Dancing for a Cause

Our Diamond Showdolls opened for the fundraising event sponsored by Watchful Shepherd, an organization fighting against child abuse. They were the flash mob that opened the event of local celebrities dancing in a ballroom competition. The owners of Arthur Murray Studios, along with Miss Cami judged the event. It was a fun evening for all who attended and a record breaking amount of funds were raised for Watchful Shepherd.

Lobby Noise!

Please remember to talk quietly while in the lobby! Remember that this is a school and the teachers sometimes have a difficult time being heard above the noise in the lobby. This has become a problem on some of the evenings!

Thanksgiving Break Reminder

Please note that the last day of classes is Tuesday, November 22nd. The studio will be closed on Wednesday, November 23rd through and including Saturday, November 26th. Classes will resume on the regular schedule on Monday, November 28th. This information is listed on your Dance by Cami Calendar.

Dance by Cami News

October - 2016

Hello Dance by Cami Students and Parents!

Payments

If you are paying for tuition by the month, please make your payment the first week of the month. Payments made after the 10th of the month should include a $10 late fee. You may pay your tuition online at www.mydanceworks.net, or drop your checks into the payment box next to the office window. Please note that the office hours for the first week of the month are posted on the office window. If you wish to pay by credit card in person, you will need to pay during those hours. Payments will not be taken over the phone.

Also, please do not bring any food back to that carperted area. The crumbs and leftover food invites bugs! If they are going to snack during breaks, please have them do that in the lobby.

Parent Observation Week

During the week of October 3rd, parents may come into the classrooms to observe your child’s classes. Teachers will speak to each group during the last 10 minutes of the class. Please sit quietly during the class, so not to interrupt the teacher.

Harlem Globetrotter Tickets

Our Dance by Cami Showdolls will be the half-time entertainment at the Harlem Globetrotters Game at Consol Energy Center on Monday, December 26th. Game time is 7:00 p.m. We can get discounted tickets for the event. You may reserve those tickets through our office.

Recital Commitments

If your child wishes to be in the Dance by Cami recital, you will be asked to turn in a Recital Commitment and a $40 per costume deposit by November 12th. The forms will be sent home with your student in the next couple of weeks. The recital will be held at the Upper St. Clair High School Theater on Saturday, June 17th.

No classes will be held on Monday, October 31st. Happy Halloween!!!
